Realizar una buena presentación de los contenidos a tratar durante la clase es un factor clave para conseguir que los estudiantes estén motivados e interesados, siendo éste el objetivo que todo profesor debería llegar a alcanzar en cada sesión.
Muchas veces se subestima la importancia de dar un buen comienzo a la clase, sin embargo, en mi opinión, es la esencia de toda la lección. ¿Por qué? Sencillamente porque permite al profesor introducir y presentar nuevos temas o puntos gramaticales, así como conseguir hacer explícito parte del vocabulario a utilizar de una manera más efectiva, dado que los estudiantes son los verdaderos protagonistas de esta “obra”.
En mis sesiones siempre trato de lograr dos objetivos fundamentales: suscitar el interés de los alumnos y que se encuentren motivados por lo que vamos a trabajar. Así, siempre doy comienzo con un “calentamiento” previamente elaborado, ya que va a ayudar a mejorar toda la sesión en su conjunto.
En las sesiones en las que he conseguido mi objetivo con una buena introducción, me he dado cuenta de que yo me encuentro más relajada, mientras que los estudiantes son más proactivos. ¡Todos salimos ganando!
Evidentemente hay numerosas formas de hacerlo: desde proyectar algunas imágenes y preguntar a los estudiantes acerca de lo que éstas les sugieren, hasta contar una historia y conseguir que se identifiquen con ella.

The importance of a good lead-in (I)
A good lead-in is a key factor to get the students motivated and interested in the session, and that’s exactly what a good teacher should achieve in every single lesson. Many times, the beginning of a class is underestimated but it really is the essence of the whole lesson. Why? Because it allows teachers to introduce a new topic or grammar point and elicit the new vocabulary from the students in a more effective way, given that the latter are the real actors in the ‘play’.
That is what I always try to achieve with my students: engagement and motivation, so I always plan an elaborate ‘warm-up’, because it helps to improve the whole session. When I have implemented a good lead-in I have realised that I feel more relaxed and the students are more active during the lesson. It’s a win-win!
There are many different ways of doing it: from projecting some slides and ask students about them, to tell a story and get the students involved in it or even to build a word map.
