CHIBI is a Japanese slang word meaning “short person” or “small child”. So it can be offensive to call someone “chibi”.
Japanese style comic which is known as “manga” sometimes get their characters drawn in smaller versions, which are more cute and more humorous. These miniature versions of characters are called “chibi”.
Because of the popularity of “manga” in the younger generation worldwide, the word “Chibi” is beginning to get widely used.
One of my youngest students explained to me what CHIBI is last week (I had no idea!) and she drew the chibi version of me!!
